ServTech’s Blueprint Management System in Action
February 17, 2026
The SummerSOC Young Researcher Award 2026, sponsored by ServTech, has been presented to Giacomo Acitelli for his contribution to “Business Process Execution as a Service: Leveraging Automated Planning for Framed Autonomy in AI-Augmented BPMSs. His work addresses a core challenge for AI-augmented Business Process Management Systems (ABPMSs): how to let such systems decide autonomously how to progress a process, or recover from a deviation, while staying within a prescribed set of procedural and declarative constraints, known as the process frame. Building on the observation that this “framed autonomy” can be cast as a cost-optimal planning problem, the paper introduces PLaaS (Planning as a Service), a reference architecture that moves the planning reasoning out of each individual system and into a shared, cloud-based, multi-tenant service. Its distinctive contribution is the ability to recognize when different organisations, despite syntactically different frames, are effectively solving the same problem, enabling their computation to be reused. This equivalence is captured via a canonical form based on minimization and isomorphism of synchronous products of augmented DFAs, and materialized as a three-level semantic cache. Backed by a typed service contract with explicit correctness and isolation guarantees, PLaaS turns a costly, duplicated reasoning task into a scalable, reusable BPM-specific platform.
